Want to feel energised? Chi is what you need, says leading chi consultant Clara Apollo…
Chi is energy and it’s all around us. Learn to harness it and you’ll be a pulsating powerhouse! The art of chi kung is the key to unlocking the chi. Historically, chi kung was practised in Taoist and Buddhist monasteries as a foundation for martial arts and meditation and is based upon the tenets of traditional Chinese medicine.
Chi kung is a system of intentional movement and meditation that lets us recharge to be able to move and access the energy that’s all around us. Once you become attuned to it, you’ll feel this life force – you’ll recognise it in the food you eat and the air that you breathe. In fact, purifying negative ions are the Chi component in air and are especially prominent near trees and by the sea – part of the reason that being in these environments is so uplifting!
We can use chi kung to enhance our natural healing, providing a clear flow of vitality, creativity, calm and peace. The immediate benefits are stress relief, good sleep and joint mobility but it also helps us to let go of tension, boost energy and well-being, develop stamina and strength, improve posture and balance, tone muscles and lengthen tendons, enhance clarity and mental agility, increase resilience, relieve neck, back and shoulder aches; all to help promote a calmer approach to life!
It’s quite a list but how can we get to this state when we already feel exhausted? Sometimes, we’re just too tired to exercise! Well, unlike other exercise, the first thing we do in chi kung is to lie or sit down! We stop, and we let our bodies drain the tiredness away – down in to the Earth. We give ourselves the time to do what our bodies naturally need. This is the first step to rejuvenation. It’s such a crucial practice because quite often those of us who are spiritually aware find that the body becomes tired and neglected. In fact, it’s beautifully attuned to spirituality because chi kung combines body, mind and soul as one holistic unit.
Our nation is becoming increasingly anxious and stressed and this ancient practice is an ideal natural way to alleviate and manage the side effects of all that worrying. We must learn to receive, to know that we are enough as we are right here and now, that the fact of our existence is amazing and we can just be – being is enough. Chi Kung places us in the arena to let this powerful natural process occur; to let us recharge our bodies and spirit so that we’re ready for anything!
