Soul & Spirit’s very own white witch Patricia Weston Witch explains how she overcame her fear of not being accepted – and how you can too!
“During my father’s funeral, I was forced to confront a very uncomfortable fear, along with the difficult grieving process. The confrontation came in the form of a cousin who I hadn’t seen since childhood. She approached me with suspicion and mockery, loudly addressing me with a smirk: “I hear you’re a witch now!” I immediately felt uncomfortable and rather self-conscious.
“Ordinarily, I don’t feel the need to justify or explain my chosen profession to anyone, but in this case I was more sensitive than usual, and I was knocked off-guard. I quickly and quietly explained to my cousin that what I do is part of who I am and I’m not in a position to explain myself to anyone. With that, she turned on her heel, flicked her hair and left.
“After this rather unpleasant confrontation, I began to doubt myself and ponder why I’d chosen such a socially unacceptable path. And with this emerged my fear of not being liked and accepted by people. My chosen path skims along the outskirts of society and it takes a lot of courage to stand up for yourself and face the fear of not always being liked, understood or accepted.
“So, I knew I had to get to work on overcoming it. Fear is an energy, so I meditated to clear it. This particular meditation is simple and anyone can do it: concentrate on your breathing and relax. Once relaxed, scan your body to locate the fear; this is usually where you feel tension or discomfort. Call on your guides and angels to assist. Now focus on that area, giving it a colour then a shape. Next, call on Archangel Michael and Archangel Raphael to help. Ask Archangel Michael to use his powerful vacuum to remove the energy then once you feel it is gone call on Archangel Raphael to fill the space with white light.
“After my meditation, I faced my fear, cleared it and realised that the work I do glows with so much healing and love and, as much as it may be misunderstood by many, its power lies in its mystery, magic and ability to help and heal. That is far more important that any fear.
“I love what I do and it has helped me and many people. I’m grateful to my cousin for forcing me to come face to face with my own fears and doubts so I could confront them, clear them and overcome them. If you have a fear, now it’s your turn to face it!”
