Mercury moves out of retrograde this month – meaning you may find things start to finally progress. Astrologer Joanna Watters explains how to deal with these changes…
Have you ever wondered what the word ‘retrograde’ actually means? We all know that planets can’t literally turn around and start reversing through the heavens but, the point is, they can appear to. So when a planet is in retrograde motion it’s as if it’s making backwards loops and swirls. That’s the astronomy. But what’s the astrology? No matter what the event, the rule is always, ‘as above, so below’. In other words, astrology is like a great big cosmic mirror. Look into it and the heavens will reflect back to you what is unfolding on our planet and in our lives. When a planet changes direction, so do we.
Much is said about Mercury being in retrograde, and even those not interested in astrology have often heard of this phrase. Mercury is in retrograde three times a year for three weeks at a time, and during this time he gleefully welcomes his role as mischief-maker. And, as he rules everything to do with communication and travel, there’s not a lot that is safe from his trickery! Suddenly nothing is straightforward – we’re hampered by delays or cancellations, wrong or missing information, people keep changing their minds, someone special drops off the scene and everyone starts having problems with their technological devices. Sound familiar?
What’s Mercury doing in March? This month sees Mercury get ready to switch back to direct motion on the 10th, which means it’s back on with his magician’s hat. But, remember you have to give him a chance to warm up the magic wand. Just as when you reverse out of a parking space, you have to come to a complete standstill before going into first gear again. This is, however, the turning point.
