Spring forward intuitively

Tap into your inner power this Ostara with help from practising witch Ceryn Rowntree
After what feels like a long winter, spring is finally here! And what better way to honour that than by celebrating Ostara on 19th-23rd March – the spring equinox which marks the midway point between winter and summer solstice – and by stepping into a new beginning within our own lives? Named after a Goddess of the same name, Ostara is a festival of rebirth and new beginnings which is symbolised by spring flowers, hares and of course eggs. Even the hot cross bun which is so often associated with the Christian festival of Easter has its roots in Ostara, with the cross in the centre representing the perfect balance of equinox, as we are halfway between the longest night of winter and longest night
of summer.
This time of year is an opportunity to really come back to ourselves and connect to that inner sense of knowing that tells us what lies ahead even before we can tangibly see or feel those new beginnings and, with that in mind, it’s a great time to connect more deeply to our intuition. After all, what better way to step into the new than from a place of deep connection with that powerful and wise knowing within you? Let’s make this year and each one that follows a celebration of trust in yourself and in those wise senses that we so often struggle to connect with. Here are three exercises to support you in raising that potent connection with your intuition…
Pay attention to your senses
It may seem counter-intuitive to tune into your five standard senses as you look to develop your sixth, but tuning into one sense always allows space for the others to be heard. Try to spend a few moments every day tuning in deeply to what you can see – the colours, shapes, and movements around you; what you can feel within your body and outside of yourself too; as well as what you can hear, smell and taste. With each of these at the front of your consciousness, give yourself the space to simply get quiet for a few moments and notice what else comes up. Perhaps you will become aware of a deeper version of any of these senses giving you information you hadn’t previously noticed, or perhaps your intuition will make itself known in a different way. Simply tune into your senses regularly and be patient as you allow your intuition to make itself known.
Get familiar with your journal
As a writer, journaling is one of my favourite ways to work with my intuition. Each day I open my journal and write at the top of a page “what do I need to know today” and then allow the words to flow. At first, your writing may not seem intuitive – perhaps the page will be filled with your shopping list or everything that has been on your mind! But don’t worry too much if that’s the case – I sometimes think of this as ‘clearing the pipes’ of your awareness. By clearing out the inner noise which has previously drowned out our intuition, we open up space for that intuitive voice to make itself known and share its wisdom with us.
Supporting your third eye
Once information from your intuition does start to flow more freely into your awareness, the next task is always to learn to trust the information you receive. As with any relationship, building that trust can take time, so go gently with yourself and know that it is OK not to leap into the action to follow your intuitive guidance straight away! Amethyst is a great tool for supporting this journey of connection with and trust in your intuition, so carrying a piece of the stone with you can offer a powerful reminder of your connection at any time you begin to doubt. Spend some time meditating with this amethyst over your third eye – the energy centre said to be the home of our intuition – regularly to amplify your intuition and support you on this journey and connect the stone with your own intuitive force.
