Derek devoted his life to spirit, says dear friend Lillyanne, who here writes her heartfelt tribute to the medium following his passing in January 2020.
Humble. Kind. Genuine. Just a few words to describe Derek Acorah. I’ve been lucky enough to share many lovely memories with Derek, but there are certainly a few that stand out for me, like the first time we met. I had watched Derek on ‘Most Haunted’ for years and if I’m honest, folks, he was somewhat of an idol to me. So, when I got the chance to meet him in person, I was over the moon!
What was Derek Acorah like?
What’s funny is that from the first instance, Derek treated me like a star. He
was excited to meet me, Lillyanne. I couldn’t quite believe it; this was someone who I’d been in awe of for years; a real ‘celebrity’, and I was just… well, me.
I remember the first time Derek came to my home, so considerate and respectful. He had this unusual fascination with the windchimes hung around the ceiling; I mean his face would literally light up like a candle each time a soft breeze would drift by. Always admiring the small things in life, that’s one of the things I loved about Derek.
I’ve met many other psychics and mediums over the years, but I’ve never found a connection as strong as the one that Derek and I shared. It’s like we just clicked, like we were on the same wavelength.
“He sincerely devoted his life to Spirit and to helping others”
My favourite memory with Derek
I remember, once when we were doing a Facebook live at Knottingley
Hall in Yorkshire, it was funny because after both hearing the same voice, we turned our head at the same time to see these spirits. I’ve never found another medium who could see the same spirits as I could, so I knew this was special. Derek always said we must have walked together in another life; that our souls knew each other from the past. This was why we shared our spiritual connection.
We also had very similar belief systems, Dezzi and I; this is what I often
called Derek and he’d laugh. He was guided through life by Sam, whilst I’m
guided of course by my Star People. He often reminded me that spiritually we were both chosen, but that aside from this we are both just regular people.
Not your typical ‘celebrity’, Derek was profoundly humble, and such a gentleman. He would never turn his nose up at anyone and truly loved people. He sincerely devoted his life to Spirit and to helping others; Derek knew he’d been chosen for this role.
What happens to our spirit when we die?
I’m often asked what happens to someone’s spirit once the body dies. Well, I believe that the spirit actually knows when it’s time to pass over, and often will leave the body before the very end. Sometimes the spirit will hang on for a little longer, to watch on as the funeral and final goodbyes take place.
With each passing soul, they are greeted by loved ones who’ve also passed over; this could be family, friends or even old pets. The warmth and guidance from their loved ones makes the passing process much easier to bear. It’s true that once passed over, spirits can make contact with our world almost immediately, though many take the time to adapt to their new surroundings first. Loved ones often use spiritual influence to make their presence known in our world; this could be anything from the appearance of birds to feathers falling in unusual places.
If the presence of spirit is
really strong, you may even hear a whisper from your loved one, telling you that they’re ok. I’ve no doubt that Derek will be sending signs to his lovely wife Gwen, just as many of you may have had signs from your loved ones.
Derek Acorah’s best quality
Derek was fiercely kind; he reminded all the struggling souls that there is love to be found in this world. He could take someone’s sadness and turn it into something beautiful. It’s true that Derek helped my family and I when we faced what felt like an infinity of darkness; I will forever be indebted to him for that. God bless you Derek, I’ll see you again.
