Use the solstice to take stock of your life and look forward to the future, says psychic medium Lillyanne
The winter solstice on the 21st December is a magical day full of rituals and celebrations. As well as being the shortest day and longest night of the year, it also heralds the change between the seasons, and is considered, astronomically, to be the first day of winter. There are many traditions associated with the winter solstice, but I particularly love how darker days begin to give way to the light, as the sun is reborn. From this point forward,
under the restorative energy of the sun, we can begin to transform our lives.
Greeting the sun
You’d think a celebration with the sun, ruler of Leo, would be a time for some sparkle and glamour. In fact, the winter solstice sunrise is the perfect time to sit quietly and voice gratitude for the sun’s powerful return. The sun rises at around 8am on the winter solstice, and at this time I sit outside in silence and focus on breathing in the sun’s energy. I make a cup of tea with some cinnamon, and I just sit, allowing my thoughts to come and go as they please while I take deep, healing breaths. After 15 minutes or so, I thank
the sun for her gracious presence and ask her to continue lighting the path ahead of me so that I may always see truth, wisdom, and love throughout my life.
Be a winter solstice S.T.A.R
This ‘Surrender, Trust, Attune, and Receive’ mantra is especially poignant for the winter solstice. The intention of this mantra is to surrender anything we’re holding on to that no longer serves our highest good, so that we can receive new energy.
It supports us in transforming any aspect of our lives. By Surrendering and Trusting that we will be guided, we become Attuned to new energy, and Receive what we need from the Universe. Tell your guides and angels that you’re ready to surrender to their guidance and wait for miracles. This mantra is effective in dealing with challenges and difficult energies over
the festive season, too. Use the acronym ‘S.T.A.R’ as an affirmation. Just repeat ‘I am a STAR’! and watch your energy shift from negative to positive.
On winter solstice evening, gather three candles, matches, your journal, and a pen. Divide a page in your journal into three columns headed past, present, and future. Focus on your breathing for a few minutes and then ask your guides and angels to come forward and witness your intentions. Light the three candles and focus on the shapes of the flames, their colours,
aromas, and sounds as they burn. In the ‘past’ column, for five minutes, write about anything you still need to release. Focus on the second candle flame and, again for five minutes, write in the ‘present’ column your plans for your current projects and goals. Finally, focus on the third candle flame and, for another five minutes, write in the ‘future’ column your intentions for the year ahead. Sit quietly and focus on your breathing until you’re ready to blow out the candles. Thank your guides and angels, and trust them to help you achieve your intentions.
