‘Choose a job you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life’ uttered the Chinese teacher, Confucius who got it spot on when he wrote those words over 2,000 years ago. But you don’t have to be a philosopher to see the wisdom of working at a profession that gives you pleasure, rather than one that feels more like a chore.
Working takes up a huge chunk of our lives – in an average lifetime, we spend around 90,000 hours working but only 115 days laughing. With that in mind, it’s really important to be in the right job to suit your personality. If you’re shy and retiring, you’re not going to be suited to a communication-reliant role which requires you to be outgoing and forthright. Likewise, if you’re naturally gregarious, being stuck in an office backwater where you can’t shine would be an occupational no-no. So take stock and have a go at Orli Lysen’s career quiz to let the light shine on the perfect career for you.
