“My husband is SO embarrassed by my visualisation wall!”

Here’s what happened when Soul & Spirit talked all things spirituality with BAFTA-winning mockumentary goddess, star of This Country, Daisy May Cooper
with Rosalind Moody

RM: Hi Daisy, thank you so much for your time today! I’m going to break it to the press that you’re spiritual – is that ok?!
DMC: Haha, yes, absolutely fine!
RM: The third and final season This Country is being broadcast. How do you feel about it?
DMC: I’m ready for it to be the last one now, I feel guided to make it our last.
RM: Guided? Can you tell us more about that?
DMC: Well, with Michael’s passing [Daisy’s friend and co-star Michael Sleggs played lovably bullied friend Slugs in the show], what’s mental about him going was he rang me up seven days before he died in tears and said “I’m OK about dying”. He said he had an angel come and visit him and told him that in seven days he would have a new body at 12am, which he said “either means I’m going to get better or I’m going to be OK and my body will heal itself”. And in seven days, he died at 11.59pm. and I was just like, yeah, they’ve taken him, now the angels are looking after him. Before, he’d been so frightened of death, and this angel came to him and just said that. He had never been at peace with God… he thought, “if he existed, why is he doing so much harm to me, why am I in so much pain?” But he’s definitely at peace now.
Michael said he had an angel come and visit him and told him that in seven days he would have a new body at 12am
RM: You gave him such an amazing tribute in the season three’s launch episode.
DMC: Thank you, darling.
RM: You seem quite psychically open, and you told me on Instagram that’d you’d recorded some spirits in your phone…?
DMC: Do you want to hear the recording? [Takes us outside to hear better] I wasn’t at home, I was really ill in hospital with viral meningitis and it was really scary. I was in there a few weeks and bored out my mind and obviously I love ghosts and recording evp audio files on my phone. So after I say “ can you speak into the microphone which is here, ” you hear a voice that says “don’t be afraid”…
RM: What the …!
DMC: Can you hear that?!
RM: That was a female’s voice, why was I not expecting the voice to be female?
DMC: I know, it sort of sounds ethereal, doesn’t it? It sounds distant. Every person I ever meet has to listen to it.

RM: How did you react?
DMC: I was terrified! I was awake the whole night sh*****g myself. I’d never had anything paranormal happen to me ’til last year, when that happened, where you know I talked to you about leaving my body…
RM: Yeah what was that like, you had an astral experience! Out of Body Experiences are a hot trend right now, I’m jealous!
DMC: Oh my god, I can’t, I feel upset even talking about it, I’m getting really emotional about this. Like, it actually exists, it’s more real on that side than it is here [gestures sideways], this feels dull, that side is multicolour.
RM: Where did you go?
DMC: It happened completely by fluke and has never happened since, but I was in bed and I couldn’t sleep and I was watching TV. People were like “are you sure you weren’t asleep?” and I know I wasn’t. I was on my side [acts out] and I felt two pairs of hands on my body and they pulled me out of myself – that’s the only way I can describe it. I thought “I’m just going to go with this”, and suddenly I was on the ceiling in complete panic. Your whole body, you’re just vibrating –
RM: – did you feel light?
DMC: – it feels like a orgasm multiplied by 15,000, but all over your body! Heroin must feel like that, that’s the only thing I can think of. Then I suddenly I thought “Oh my god, I can move”, and suddenly I’m just shooting up and up and up just as fast as I could. It was amazing, I was in the night sky and I could see the moon. I was panicking and I thought I needed to go back into my body, and within a thought I was suddenly back there. It was like getting into a cold, wet, heavy wetsuit, coming back into my body. I’ve been trying to figure out what happened to me every since. There’s a guy in Bristol who astral projects and I’ve tried so many times to do it again and it’s never happened.
An OBE feels like a orgasm multiplied by 15,000, but all over your body!
RM: I need to put you in touch with an astral expert – it’s a real academic subject right now. [We later connected Daisy with OBE expert Jade Shaw who met with her to discuss her experience]

DMC: I would love that because I can’t get my brain around it. I could see myself from above, my eyes were closed, but I could see everything. You’ve got 360 degree view but you don’t know what you look like, and suddenly a download of info about what everything is hits you. You feel like everything is connected, and now I know for certain that absolutely everything is connected.
RM: I think that our readers would share that belief with you. The idea that we’re all one of one consciousness. The world is having a spiritual awakening.
DMC: Do you think!
RM: Definitely, everything is vibrating up to a climax at the moment. People are coming together – with this eco crisis, politically too…
DMC: Yeah it feels like there’s something happening at the moment… another thing I felt like I downloaded – which I think I already knew – was to do with how real Law of Attraction is.
RM: So do you think you co-created everything in your life?
DMC: Yep, I’ve attracted all of this from LOA, 100%. I’ve met some really famous actors – and my first question for them is always “do you believe in LOA?”. Every single one says yes, that that’s why they’re where they are today.
RM: Have you always believed in it?
DMC: Always. It really kicked in when Charlie [Cooper, her real brother and on-screen cousin in This Country] and I were struggling with the series. Charlie is very big into LOA too. It’s bizarre how everything has synchronicity once you’re aware of it. People think that this is all there is – but all they have to do is just adjust their vibration. So many successful people have been using LOA and don’t tell anyone because they’re afraid to say that they believe in it.
RM: And when you were at your lowest vibration – what was your moment of breakthrough? When you got picked up by the BBC, what had shifted inside for you?
DMC: Our breakthrough happened when I was at my lowest, feeling pushed into a corner and I don’t know, out of despair, something incredible came. Have you ever read Welcome to your Crisis by Laura Day? We had just filmed a pilot with NBC but it didn’t work out and emotionally, it was very hard. When we found out, Charlie walked out and burst into tears, he was beside himself. I don’t know what it was – it just came to me, “I’ve got to email Shane Allen at the BBC”, and I didn’t even feel like it was me writing it. I just said, I’ll do anything to get invited for a meeting. I felt totally guided to send that email, and had I not, I wouldn’t be here talking to you now.
RM: I’m so glad you did! And maybe you would have been guided to something else, maybe guiding others?
DMC: Yeah, I just wish people had the knowledge! It was amazing when The Secret came out…
RM: How do you channel LOA in your day-to-day life?
DMC: At home I’ve got a whole wall printed with pictures of things I want, like an Oscar and that kind of stuff. I had a BAFTA on it and well, that came true. Plus pictures of the house I want…my husband is so embarrassed by it, he couldn’t be more closed off. He p****s me off because he calls it ‘coincidences’ when crazy stuff happens. But there’s that thing that Einstein said, that “some people see the miracle in everything and some people see miracles in nothing”. There are really only two camps of people!
At home I’ve got a whole visualisation wall printed with pictures of things I want, like an Oscar and that kind of stuff. I had a BAFTA on it and well, that came true.
RM: And what are you currently trying to manifest?
DMC: I’m always asking for help on stuff. I’ve learnt to let things go more – before, I was a manic attractor. I needed control, I needed to be telling everyone I’ve got this job, that job…actually I hadn’t, but I thought that was how LOA worked, that you have to live it. But actually people think you’re just a compulsive liar and completely mad! Whereas now, I’m just thinking of the best way to explain it… I just say to the Universe, “give to me whatever is the highest good, you know my intentions and I’m leaving it up to you”.
RM: And it’s better than you could have ever imagined.
DMC: Absolutely. And it still happens now. Even when I go for parts in films, the Universe sometimes chimes in and goes “no, I’m not letting you do just anything, you said you wanted the highest good for you, so I can’t let you do it – as much as you want it!”

RM: Did you manifest the role of Peggotty? [Daisy’s recent role as the nanny in The Personal History of David Copperfield, starring Dev Patel.]
DMC: That was really weird, they had struggled to fill the part and I was already such a fan of the director Armando Iannucci. I said ‘can you imagine what it’s like to work with him?’ and two days later, the phone rings and it’s my offer. Another strange thing is I loved the musical Book of Mormon so I was obsessed with Josh Gad. The very next day we were co-writing on Avenue 5 for HBO, and we’d been struggling with who was going to play Judd. The director told me it was going to be Josh Gad and I was like “you’re kidding me!” That is not a coincidence! Even more crazy stuff has happened, like unbelievable. Well, I mean it is believeable…
RM: You believe in it, that’s why it works. If I could manifest Dev Patel in two days, I would…
DMC: I’ll tell you what, he is gorgeous. I’m excited to see what the Universe brings next.
RM: Can you say what you’re working on now?
DMC: I’m doing a show called The Witchfinder for the BBC where I’m a suspected witch. Tom Key is playing a witchfinder who tries to take me to the high court. It’s great playing a witch, I used to have all these witchy books when I was 15…
I’m doing a show called The Witchfinder for the BBC where I’m a suspected witch. It’s great!
RM: There are so many white witches around now!
DMC: Are there!
RM: Yes! It’s a trend but it’s also a very real, an alternative way to live. Maybe you don’t celebrate Halloween but you’ll celebrate the witches new year on 31st October, which they call Samhain. Talking about alternative streams of spirituality, I saw that fairies are something you’re particularly fond of – you posted on Instagram that you had our columnist Karen Kay’s new fairy deck!
DMC: Oh my god – she’s amazing. So I went to – another strange coincidence – I always go to this one particular caravan park, it’s naff but I love it – and when I was last there, there were unicorns and fairies wandering around. I think the fairy ball was on! There’s something about her that makes me feel very calm.
RM: She used to work for the BBC…that’s what I mean about second spiritual careers!
DMC: Really! I’d love to be able to help people with the LOA, to be able to manifest in easier ways and find out what people’s blocks are, because I’ve done all the wrong kinds of manifesting I possibly can!
RM: Was your childhood spiritual? Did you get it from your mum or grandmother or someone else you were close to?
DMC: My mum was always really spiritual, she made me read A Conversation With God by Neale Donald Walsch when I was ten years old. I remember being at secondary school and we had to write about what our religion was. I remember writing all about this book. My teachers were pretty surprised!
RM: And you said your brother Charlie was spiritual?
DMC: I’d never seen a ghost but Charlie and I, it was all we wanted. It was on our bucket list to see a spirit, and I don’t understand because I think that I’m really spiritually open – but I haven’t seen anything.
RM: It must be that you’re clairaudient.
DMC: Oh is that what it means? It’s interesting you say that because when I was having the OBE, as I was going into it, I could hear one guy in my right ear saying he couldn’t get out of the water and in my left ear, a woman was talking in Spanish really loudly. It was like all these different voices and suddenly I was out of it. I just need to get to the bottom of why it happened, but I would absolutely love to speak to Jade Shaw. I’m also obsessed with Near Death Experiences.
RM: Yeah one of our angel columnists, it happened to – Daisy Foss.
DMC: So, angels! That’s something I’ve been getting into recently, only because I’m a massive Gabrielle Bernstein fan –
RM: – me too, I love her!
DMC: I saw an interview lately with her and she was talking about her angels, saying she was disconnected from them, so even she has bad days! I find it absolutely fascinating, when you meet someone else spiritual.
RM: How do you meet such people, do you go to spiritual conferences or author events?
DMC: I usually go to events with my friend from school, Kaya. We used to go on ghost hunts when we were 15, around the Cotswolds. Prestbury is really haunted. Even Big Mandy on the show [played by Ashley McGuire] said that when she was filming down with us, she was in her hotel one night. Her mum had recently died and her mum’s face appeared in the mirror. She was like ‘Mum, I can’t deal with you right now, go away’ and the face went away. Then she regretted it instantly and thought she would have liked to see her. Then it starts to come in again, and she tells it to go away again! My own mum is a total believer in that side, but to my husband I think “how can you be so closed off? What do you think happens when you die?” I just don’t know how anyone could just carry on thinking life is pointless, it’s absolute mental.
RM: I agree!

DMC: I try and talk to him about it, and I bought one of those great big charity cheques online for my visualisation wall. I wrote $1 billion on it, but he wants me to take it down he’s so ashamed of it! What I’m trying to manifest right now is to get paid as much as possible to do as little as possible, I want an easy life. Kerry [her character in This Country] is lazy, I guess she’s an extended version of myself!
RM: What about Kurtan? He’s so sensitive and lovely!
DMC: Charlie is sensitive and lovely in real life, and so f*****g sensitive. But he’s so good at getting me to sit down and work because I get stressed at the really small things, but it’s weird, he can’t cope with the big stuff, but that doesn’t bother me, so we’re sort of yin and yang.
RM: You’re a Leo and he’s a Gemini, so how do your fire and air signs react to each other?
DMC: I’m totally a Leo, for me I need to have a big row and get over any differences instantly, but he’s a sponge and will just absorb everything. Then he’ll shut down and I can’t reach him. But it’s because we are so different it works.
RM: What star sign do you think Kerry is?
DMC: She’s a Taurus I think. Likes to feel grounded. [Imitates] “I like this field and don’t want to move”. She’s like a pig in her own s**t.
Kerry would be a Taurus I think. She likes to feel grounded!
RM: I have a quiz here from our April issue where you can work out which celestial being you are. [You can take it here too.] Can you take it as yourself and then as Kerry?
DMC:…Hmm, Kerry would be…a guardian angel. What would I be…an earth goddess.
RM: That’s what I got!
DMC: I love quizzes like that, they take me back to being a teenager. [Reads what her results mean] Oh my god….this earth goddess, it’s bizarre, it says expect a new baby or project…I’m actually pregnant at the moment, that is bizarre. Oh my god, that is f*****g bizarre. That’s mental.
RM: Aw, congrats!
DMC: Thank you! We weren’t even trying, it just sort of happened. Part of me is like “is this Michael [Sleggs] coming back to be a pain in the a**e?” When the baby is born it’ll be a Virgo. Saying that, I thought my daughter would be a mini-me and she’s two years old and Capricorn and she’s so stubborn. It’s bizarre how we’re really different, she’s very practical.
RM: She’s so cute on your Instagram Stories! Well, I think that’s us, thank you so much Daisy.
DMC: Thank you so much, this has been wonderful! This has been so meant-to-be.
