Light Up Your Life With Our Summer Sun Spells!

Embrace the glorious vibes with these sun-worshiping celebrations for your best-ever summer
The summer solstice, also called Litha or Midsummer’s Eve, is the longest day of the year and it’s thought that the veil between this world and other realms is thinner than usual at this special time. If you’re lucky, it’s said you can see fey folk dancing and granting wishes at dusk. Try leaving offerings of fruit to entice the faeries to reveal themselves and it’s thought you will have a year of abundance! What makes this ancient festival especially poignant is that a sacred union takes place in the cosmos on this particular day (June 21st), as the sun is in its zenith and full of masculine energy just as it enters Cancer, a feminine sign. This means yin and yang energies are balanced, promoting a sense of spiritual wholeness across the earth.
“Celebrating the Litha Sun provides a powerful reminder of the divine light within each of us. It’s the ideal day to think about what you want for your future as the sun’s strong rays can kick-start you into taking charge of your dreams and your destiny,” says spiritual healer and psychic, Kate Oman (psychicmamma.co.uk). During the summer solstice you can feel your inner fire and make things happen. So, whether you want some extra energy to start a new project, clear away emotional baggage, or would like to develop your spiritual insight, now is the perfect time to live life to the full!
Call for confidence
Litha is linked to The Oak King, sometimes referred to as the Green Man, who is a spirit of the land and associated with creativity, strength and a go-getting attitude. “The masculine vibes flowing at this time charges us with positivity and helps us grab hold of our dreams by the collar,” says Kate.
Sun salutation: Go outside and place your feet hip-width apart and raise your arms up towards the sun with your palms open. Take a few moments to visualise yourself being successful in every situation. Feel yourself absorbing the powerful rays. Breathe deeply and open your heart to the power of the sun, knowing that so much potential lies within you,” says Kate.
Glimpse into the future
According to folklore, spirits of every kind roam around and allow you to see your fate. “The summer solstice is a wonderful time to receive messages from the spirit world,” says Kate. “You’re also more likely to have prophetic dreams or gain clarity over a situation you’ve previously been unsure about. It’s the perfect time to get in touch with your higher self and to strengthen this connection for guidance in all areas of your life.”
Sun salutation: “Working with fire for divination can produce amazing results. Light a candle and place it in its holder. Ask a question you’ve been pondering, then sit back from the candle and look at the flame. If it looks dim, it could suggest holding off plans for now. An extremely bright flame is a sign of good fortune, but if it suddenly grows smaller, the luck will only be temporary. If the flame seems to flicker and dance, a great change is coming for you. A visible spark in the wick means good news is arriving, and soon!”
Make way for good fortune
The solstice is also known as a fire-festival and bonfires were traditionally lit to symbolise the strength of the sun and to encourage good luck for the following year. “Flames have great significance spiritually as they help power-up our determination by heating our inner fire,” says Kate. “What’s more, smoke has the ability to purify, and can help cleanse away limiting beliefs and behaviours to surge you forward with your heart’s desires,” says Kate.
Sun salutation: “When the sun is setting at the end of the day, light a red or orange candle and stare into the flame, with the intention of clearing away anything that no longer serves you. Take a sage bundle and, lighting the end, slowly pass it over your body, allowing the smoke to work its magic. Say aloud, ‘By the energies of fire and sun, I ask that all blockages and obstacles be cleared from my path. By cleansing my spirit, I ask that new energies and opportunities come to me now.’ When you feel ready, thank the divine for helping you and safely put out the sage and candles,” says Kate.
Mini sun ceremonies
Earth-based practitioner Abby Wynne suggests these simple rituals to add fuel to your fire:
• Light a candle and stare into the wick. Imagine the fire is burning away all that stands between you and your creativity. Write a list of any self-doubt and burn it. Feel the negative energy unwinding out of your body.
• Create a crystal essence by placing insoluble gems in water and leaving in the sun, allowing the rays to energise the solution. Remove the crystals when it gets dark and pour the into a bottle with a lid for when you need an energy boost.
• Create a mandala – either draw one and colour it in, or make one with crystals, flowers, stones, twigs or leaves. Let it represent what you want in life and what you are willing to let go of. Connect to it with your energy by meditating as you hold it, so as the sun fills the mandala with its light, you also become filled. At the end of the day, dismantle (or burn) the mandala, with great love, knowing that the energies have shifted and that you’ve raised your vibration.
