They say there’s no time like the present. It is definitely true for self love because our level of self love affects so many areas of our lives. Learning to love ourselves can lead to many positive improvements. So given its importance, here are Dr David R Hamilton‘s 3 ways to start loving yourself today.
1 Decide to love yourself
The moment you decide that you are going to learn to love yourself, you begin to notice all of the times, and around which people, where your self love is lacking. Why is this a good thing? It means you can do something about these things.
It causes you to self-correct… in the space of noticing your lack of self love, you make a correction to your behaviour, one that is more in line with self love. Each correction you make increases your self love.
2 Do something that shows that your needs and wishes are important
Each time you do something that says, ‘My needs (and wishes) are importan’ you make a statement of self love. It’s a statement that you matter, made strong by your putting the statement into action. Nothing says self love more than a practical demonstration that you matter.
3 Hold your body in a way that says, ‘I’m worth it’
Your body language reflects how you feel, but research shows that body language can also create how you want to feel. Try straightening your spine, relaxing your shoulders, holding your head up, and allowing a gentle, comfortable smile to form on your face.
Do this as you walk today and you will notice a growing feeling of self assuredness. When you are sitting down, ensure your back is straight, your shoulders are relaxed, and then breathe in a relaxed way. These little adjustments to your posture can make a big difference to how you feel. A posture that says, ‘I’m worth it’ creates a feeling that you’re worth it!
