In a world that seems to have gone mad, socially, politically and environmentally, Tarotbella says Saturn and Pluto could hold the key to enlightenment
Do you feel like society is entering a new era of uncertainty, indecision and, well, unpredictability? You’re not alone. This year, as we continue to absorb the shockwaves of 2019 and face yet more tumultuous times, you’d be forgiven for wondering if the world has gone crazy. Is there something in the water? How can the pendulum in our political sphere have swung to such extremes so quickly?
People are searching for meaning and a way out of this confusing chapter in human history, and astrology may help provide an explanation for these troubled times, as well as a way that we can all emerge in a new era – maybe even a better world.
The Saturn/Pluto conjunction
The ‘villain’ behind the world’s woes astrologically right now is the big Saturn/ Pluto conjunction. A conjunction occurs when any two astronomical objects appear to be close together in the sky, as observed from Earth. These planets are due to line up perfectly on 12th January 2020, although the effects of this conjunction have been brewing since 2017. This is like the cosmos’s version of a meltdown and it’s impacted everyone on planet Earth in some way, shape or form.
A potent mix
Saturn and Pluto are both relatively daunting influences. Saturn is an outer planet, representing hierarchies and the status quo, and Pluto is the planet of world affairs, ruling over destruction, transformation and rebirth. In conjunction, they merge their forces and become ‘charged’ by each other’s powers. This potent mixology has created a global cocktail of apocalyptic concerns, deep-rooted hatreds and systems which have failed to serve the society they support.
Politically this translates into the decay of structures, hierarchies and status quos that are no longer meeting human needs, or are robust in their own right. This is why many of us feel things are ‘falling apart’ – in society, politics, the sources of authority or justice we once relied upon. The conjunction only happens every 32-38 years (thank goodness!) and it leads to the dissolution of the structure or concept represented by the qualities of the sign it occurs in. Here, that sign is Capricorn.
Enter the sea goat…
Embodying the hardworking goat, Capricorn is the sign of governments, business and capitalism. Saturn first entered Capricorn back in December 2017, and from then we collectively started to feel shudders of discontent, rebellion and failures within and against those systems. Saturn is a taskmaster and asks Capricorn whether we as a planet are moving into the 21st century with the right infrastructure, social systems and leadership.
Pluto’s transformative energy is around to help dissolve and rebuild that which needs replacing.
The Saturn/Pluto conjunction sounds ominous but happily, for most of 2020, Jupiter also arrives into Capricorn and can temper some of this destructive and negative energy with its positive influences of abundance, luck, optimism and growth. Jupiter might be the influence to save the day, the safety net of hope and goodwill that will capture the Saturn/Pluto speeding car of doom as it sails over the cliff.
How will this affect your sign?
Given the scale of the global and societal affairs impacted by this conjunction, most people will find circumstances outside of their control, in some way, forcing them to adjust in some way. As this transit is so drawn out, it also gives it more time to somehow ‘seep’ into the collective mood. This may explain why everyone feels a bit anxious and on edge about world affairs, but may also prove to be a positive thing, in that people will also start to band together to address their fears. Remember this cosmic law: everything changes. Every negatively-charged astrological transit does pass over, in time. So too will this one. Hold tight. It’s darkest before the dawn.
