Find out all you need to know about these ‘crystals’ with Ashley Leavy…
Did you know that your crystal collection likely contains some imposters? That’s right, they’re sitting there right now along with your gemstones, but they’re not actually crystals at all.
Things like Obsidian, Jet, Amber, and Shungite, just to name a few. Not to worry though, as these ‘imposters’ still make excellent healing tools. They may not be crystals, but they are still minerals. You see, crystals are minerals with a regularly repeating atomic structure. So all crystals are minerals, but not all minerals are crystals. Crystals must have a crystalline lattice, or blueprint. This perfectly repeating, internal structure gives a crystal its stable energetic vibration.
Most healers prefer crystals because when a crystal is introduced into the energy field, the energy body goes through the process of entrainment. This means that the energy field begins to mimic the perfect, stable energy of the crystal, which brings the energy body back into balance.
So why do healers also use non-crystalline minerals like those mentioned above? Crystal healing works on many levels – and not just because of a crystal’s internal molecular structure.
Some minerals are used because of their history or lore. For example, Amber, an organic mineral, has a long history of use for cleansing, protection and good well-being. Because of these historical associations, many modern healers still use this stone today for the same purposes – and with great results.
Minerals may also be used because of their colour energy. When a mineral displays a certain colour, it can be used for healing to enhance or balance the qualities of that colour. The hue we see is actually the shade being reflected off the stone as light passes through it. So, the reflected coloured light enters the aura and harmonises the energy in that part of the spectrum. For example, Black Obsidian, which is an amorphous (non-crystalline) mineral, is used for protection and grounding because the colour black is associated with these qualities. So as light passes through the stone and we perceive it as black in colour, and that is the energy vibration being given off by the stone.
