Deeply rooted in Native American culture, smudge sticks are a traditional and powerful way to call upon spirits while also driving away any negative surrounding energy. This ritual has long been harnessed to help banish away any unwanted vibes, while filling your home with a mix of wonderfully natural scents. With an abundance of herbs and leaves out there to try, why not mix and match with a variety of combinations to find the spiritual scent that’s right for you?

You will need:
• Fresh or dried herbs:
– White sage for clearing negative energy (We got ours from holisticshop.co.uk)
– Rosemary for protection
– Lavender to calm
– Lemon balm for spiritual cleansing
– Borage for courage and optimism
• Cotton twine
1 Cut fresh herbs from the garden on a dry but cool day to best preserve their scent. Gently remove any wildlife. 2Trim the herbs into stems around 15cm long and gather together in a neat bunch. Secure the base of the bunch with a tight wrap of cotton twine. 3Take more twine and wind

3 Take more twine and wind around the bunch, criss-crossing the ends and knotting tightly at regular intervals. Stop wrapping about 5cm from the top of the smudge stick.
4 Hang upside down to dry out before lighting.
If using dried herbs, take care when wrapping as pulling the twine too tightly will rip through the plants and cause them to break
