How To Bounce Back From Failure

Vibrational medicine practitioner Nikki Wyatt shows you how to overcome your ambition anxieties…
People say life isn’t a dress rehearsal, yet in a way that’s exactly what it is. In a dress rehearsal, you’re allowed to fluff your lines, miss your cues and hit a few wrong notes. When we’re young, we accept that learning to ride a bike will include a fair number of bruises, but determination pays off when we’re whizzing along with the wind in our hair and a fantastic feeling of achievement.
Then what happens? We spend time at school, where the opinions of our teachers and classmates become important, and we worry about getting hurt. Mistakes are marked with a red pen and our grades are sometimes pinned on a board for all to see. In some environments, failure isn’t seen as a natural part of learning and taking risks, but as shameful and embarrassing. The need to ‘get it right’ can stop you using your initiative, and those questions you want to ask can dry in your mouth for fear of looking stupid.
This is a choice. What’s more important? Your desire to learn a new skill and create something unique, or the need to be invisible, stay small and avoid unwelcome attention. The answer is to learn resilience. Your intention, desire and self-belief need to form a strong inner core, while on the outside you need to be more flexible and able to adapt to circumstances.
Rigid expectations create a hard exterior which can shatter. Stay open to what unfolds so there’s softness and flow. Instead of failures, there are experiments, rehearsals and learning. Adjustments are expected, fine-tuning is constant and we’re always reading and responding to feedback from the universe and our intuition.
Nothing is wrong, it’s just changing – which is the nature of life. The day we allow fear of failure to dictate our actions, we cease to take risks and grow. As motivational speaker, Tony Robbins says: “No matter how many mistakes you make or how slowly you progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn’t trying.”
