7 Food Groups To Power Up Your Main Chakras

Did you know that you can recharge your main chakras with food? Here’s what you should be tucking into to balance those vibrations…
1. Root chakra
Located at the perineum at the base of your spine, your root chakra is closest to the earth. Its function is concerned with earthly grounding and physical survival, and is linked to your legs, feet, bones and large intestine. It also controls your ‘fight or flight’ response. To give it a boost, opt for grounding root vegetables such as beetroot, carrot, garlic, ginger, turnips, potatoes and parsnips to bring you back to Mother Nature.
2. Sacral (or naval) chakra
Located between the base of your spine and your navel, the sacral chakra is associated with your lower abdomen, kidneys, bladder, circulatory system and your reproductive organs. It is linked to your emotions and represents desire, pleasure, sexuality, reproduction and your creative spark. The second chakra’s element is water, so drinking lots of fluids like herbal teas, juices and of course, water, is the best way to clear and heal it should it become out of balance.
3. Solar chakra
The third chakra transforms passionate energy into action and is your source of self-confidence. Sunny yellow foods really help to clear and balance it, so opt for foods in this colour like peppers, sweetcorn, yellow lentils, curry made with turmeric, lemons and bananas.
4. Heart chakra
The heart chakra is the centre of love, compassion, harmony and peace and stores the energy of your soul. We fall in love through it, and those feelings of unconditional love are then said to travel to the emotional centre (the solar plexus) where strong feelings of attraction build. Its colour is green, so vegetables in this hue such as peas, kale, green beans, lettuces, spinach, chard, pak choi and broccoli really ignite the energy of this chakra.
5. Throat chakra
This is the chakra of communication, creativity, self-expression and judgement. It represents your neck, shoulders, arms, hands and thyroid glands. It is also connected to the senses and hearing. It is the home of your voice and acts as the centre of your communication. Living and speaking your truth is essential to maintain the balance of this chakra, so opt for blueberries, which are said to promote your ability to express yourself.
6. Brow (third eye) chakra
The chakra that encourages knowledge and perception is located at the centre of your forehead at eye level (or slightly above). It is linked to your psychic abilities, inner vision, intuition and wisdom, as well as your actual sight. Your dreams for this life and recollections of other lifetimes are held in this energy centre. Eating a light, healthy meal with lots of colourful fruits and vegetables before engaging in a spiritual meditation will keep it in check.
7. Crown chakra
This chakra is symbolised by the colour violet and is located on the crown of your head. It is associated with your spinal cord and nervous system, and is connected to how to process and understand information, as well your emotions of understanding, acceptance and happiness. Opt for purple foods such as aubergines, figs, passionfruit and plums to keep it energetically charged.
