Allow the planet to soothe your soul by tuning into Mother Earth’s natural energies
WORDS: Abby Knight
On the 22nd April people around the world will celebrate the 50th
anniversary of Earth Day, which originated in America and began as a protest to environmental ignorance. Today, this important day encourages everyone to help protect our beautiful planet and promotes the idea of peace and harmony. To mark the occasion, here are 10 ways you can show
your love for nature…
1. Know we are all connected
Use this time to really embrace the fact that everything in the cosmos is interconnected. “The earth provides us with the positive energy we need to stay healthy and grounded,” says energy healer Daniel Whittaker. “Whenever you feel anxious or disconnected try this meditation. Take two deep breaths in and relax. Visualise the root chakra at the base of your spine. See it rotating clockwise as you draw in the earth’s energy and become aware of your breathing. With each out breath, keep the image spinning and let the energy move up and down your legs, then back to your root chakra. Repeat for 10 minutes.”
2 Nourish the feminine
Earth is the most powerful of all feminine symbols and is endlessly giving and nurturing. Today, many people worry that if they’re not ‘doing’ something they may be seen as weak or lazy. So, this month, instead of waking up and getting straight on to your to-do list, take the first 15 minutes to just sit, meditate or do a short yoga session. The feminine side of you is
very creative and connected to bodily wisdom and that which the earth
provides. Sitting in warm sunshine for a few minutes each day, where possible, can strengthen this female power.
3 Take a moon shower
The moon revolves around the earth and they have a constant pull on each other and the earth’s oceans which keeps us all in balance. Re-affirm the earth-moon connection by taking a moon shower. On the next full moon, lie down naked or semi clothed in a dark room near a window where the rays of the moon can shine through. Imagine your mind, body and soul soaking up the positive lunar energy and taking away any feelings of negativity.
4 Visualise green shoots
Whenever you hear about awful events impacting the earth, do your bit to heal the land’s energy by meditating on the life that’s still present in the roots. Healer and author Dodie Hamilton, also known as the Spiritual Midwife, says: “Even when a tree is blackened, life exists under the soil. Take a few minutes each day to visualise new growth. Send love and life to the roots of all plants and watch them flourish!”
5 Take an earth walk
Waking barefoot on the spring grass will help boost your bond with mother earth. Proponents of the idea of grounding believe that when our skin connects with the ground, free electrons are taken up into the body. These work like powerful antioxidants, neutralising the free radicals in our body that can lead to a shift in wellbeing. Stepping out regularly is thought to help nurture feelings of calm.
