Why do we place so much value on self-love? Because it underpins all of our relationships – and affects the way we live. So by refreshing your view of yourself, you can supercharge your confidence and boost your happiness, welcoming more love from all directions. But first, let’s give those self-love saboteurs a good talking to… with a little help from three top-notch experts!
David R. Hamilton says: “It makes us feel that who or what we are isn’t good enough. So long as we are feeling shame we feel unable to love ourselves in that moment”
David says: “You need to learn to separate your identity from a behaviour or perception. For example, ‘I am bad’ (identity) becomes ‘I did something bad’ (behaviour); ‘I am ugly’ (identity) becomes, ‘We all see things differently. What’s up to one person is down to another’ (perception).”
Marianne Vicelich says:“For as long as you continue to judge yourself you go through your day as if you are on trial. As each judgement falls away your vision will be restored,” Marianne Vicelich
Marianne says: “Recognise that you are your own light, so you have to take care of yourself. You are your greatest gift to the world, so be authentic and enjoy being you.”
Annie Kaszina says: “Negative talk hurts so much because we believe we are defenceless. The hurtful things people say speak volumes about them, and their world-view, but they say nothing about you, their target.”
Annie says:“If you’re on the receiving end of negative talk, all you need to say is, ‘I understand that feels real for you’ and end the conversation there. There’s no more to be said.
“In regards to negative self-talk, it’s enough to recognise what’s happening, and start singing ‘Always look on the dark side of life’. Strange as that may sound, it will interrupt your inner chatter.”
