Kitchen with Silja reveals the untold magic of the humble cauliflower
Whether roasted, boiled, whizzed into rice or used in a pizza crust, cauliflower is one of the most versatile vegetables out there. But did you know it had mystical hidden depths? Egyptian pharaohs ate it to keep a clear head when faced with their enemies, and it was so prized in 12th century Spain that many said babies came from the cauliflower patch. Its white colour symbolises peace and pure energy to give you a fresh start – a blank canvas for your creativity, just in time for spring!
Cabbage, kale, broccoli, kohlrabi, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts are all the same species of plant, in nature known as wild cabbage. They look and taste so different now because humans put their energy, creativity and time into cultivating different parts of the plant. It was once thought of as a vegetable for only the poorest of society in the 18th century. Now it is prized for its nutritional value and versatility.
Roman mythology states that cauliflower grew from the tears of Lycurgus of Thrace, when he attacked the God Dionysus to stop the deity from teaching mortals wine-making. Thankfully he failed!
4 Magical ways with cauliflower
Harness the energy of Ostara, the Spring equinox, by cutting a slice from the middle of a cauliflower and using it like a blank canvas. Visualise a new goal in your personal or professional life and keep it on your altar or a mantelpiece for a few days. Cook the rest of the cauliflower into a dish and visualise your energy getting stronger towards your goal as you eat it.
To add power and pure energy to any ritual or spell, use some riced or finely cut cauliflower and sprinkle in a pentagram shape on your altar or around the magical object (tarot cards, or a quartz point, for example) you are empowering.
Need a creative solution to a problem? Hold a full head of cauliflower in your hands and stand firmly with your feet hip wide apart. Chant this 9 times: “Lady Moon come to me, bring me creativity. Lord of Sun grant me energy, so that the clear path I can see!” Then look at the plant in your hand and interpret the shapes in the whiteness.
If you need more peace to be able to meditate and be creative, cook a cauliflower dish. First, stir it counter clockwise and imagine the bad energy and negative or loud people going away with the steam. Then stir clockwise and imagine the Moon Goddess’ energy and the creativity of the universe entering the dish and nourishing everyone’s mind and body who eats it.
