Kitchen witch Silja delves into the magic of apple blossom
Apple trees have been grown in the UK for over a thousand years, and apple blossoms are one of the quintessential signs that spring is truly here – with a promise of summer and food to come (so much so that many towns all over the world hold apple blossom festivals!) Investing time and money in getting an apple tree symbolises an investment and hope in the future, as it usually takes several years for the apple tree to blossom, and then for blossoms to be strong enough to become apples. These days, you can cut down on that time by buying near-ready trees, and even dwarf apple blossoms for your balcony or garden!
If you are looking to expand your family, keep apple blossoms in a vase by the bed, or, if you want to promote general fertility (or generate ideas of the creative type), keep them by the left side of the bed to dream up ideas, or the left of your work space to get creative there.
To contact spring and love goddesses Persephone, Bastet, Brigit or Venus, sit quietly with a branch of apple blossom in both your hands. Focus your eyes on the blossoms, and ask the goddess of choice to come to you. You may feel a warmth, or a light breeze, as if someone is hugging you from behind. That is the Goddess signaling she is there – now you can ask for her guidance or protection, or ask her a question.
To perform an apple blossom love spell, surround a pink (to find love/ bring romance back into your relationship) or red (to spice up your love life) candle with apple blossoms. As you sprinkle the flowers clockwise, say: “Blossoms will bring love and blessings from above!” Light the candle on the waxing moon for the first time, then remove the flower circle as the flowers start to wilt.
