Derek turns a skeptic into a believer with a surprise secret from the past
There are occasions during my demonstrations when I am all too aware that a husband or partner has been dragged along to the theatre to keep their ‘other half’ company. Now and then there are partners who come along who are deeply skeptical and are adamant that nothing will change their minds. I am very pleased to say that on more than one occasion I have been witnessed a person walking in as a sceptic and walking out as a believer.
MYSTERIOUS MARGERY One such occasion was a couple of years ago when I appeared at a theatre in the Midlands. I had the spirit of an elderly lady with me and she told me most emphatically that I must go to Ruth, indicating a section of the audience where I could see a middle-aged lady sitting next to a rather obviously bored gentleman. I established with the lady that her name was Ruth and that the elderly lady in spirit was her mother Enid. Enid had passed away to the world of spirit a year or so previously. “I left unfinished business,” Enid told me, and Ruth confirmed that indeed, her mother had left her affairs in rather a mess. I could tell that Enid was becoming exasperated and was determined to get her message across. She instructed me to tell Ruth that she must go through the papers again and find Margery. Ruth was mystified and could not place anybody with the name Margery, not a neighbour, a friend or anybody at her place of work. The gentleman sitting next to Ruth began to smile in a rather self-satisfied manner at Ruth’s response. “Tell him he’ll be laughing on the other side of his face,” Enid said. I didn’t pass on that remark. Instead, I gave Ruth some more messages from her mother which she happily accepted as being precise, but still the mystery regarding Margery remained. Enid finished up by telling Ruth that she really must sift through the papers once more and she would find out about the ‘secret’.
A FAMILY SECRET A month or so later I was appearing in a theatre in the Midlands area once more. As usual I went out in to the foyer after the show and was surprised to see Ruth standing there waiting for me, together with her husband Stan. “Well I’ve got to say that you’ve changed my mind completely,” Stan said. “Ruth and I went home and went through everything you had told her. I could see then that there was no way that you could have known some of the things that you said and, as for Enid and her secret, even we didn’t know about that!” Ruth and Stan went on to tell me that they had gone through Enid’s papers once again and had come across a birth certificate detailing the birth of a baby girl three years prior to Ruth’s birth. That child had been named Margery – her mother was also Enid but no father was named. Ruth was determined to track down her long-lost sister and she promised me that she would let me know if she was successful. Some months later I heard from her to say that after exhaustive enquiries she had traced her sister and that she was living in Scotland. As Ruth was telling me this I felt Enid around me once more and knew that she was very pleased that she had not only had a happy outcome to her ‘secret’, but that she had managed to change Stan’s mind and that he was indeed now, ‘laughing on the other side of his face’.
