When it comes to looking, feeling and maintaining a confident frame of mind, your posture (and the way you carry yourself) is of the utmost importance. Pilates is another fantastic way of ensuring you step into any situation looking (and feeling) totally empowered and sure of yourself. Rosa Whitehead shares a simple exercise that could help you today!
Stand with your feet shoulder width apart, and slowly tuck your tail-bone under. (Your tummy will naturally draw inwards as you do this.)
Spread your weight evenly between the balls of your feet and heels, and gently soften your ribcage (so it falls down towards your hips).
Open up your collar bones by relaxing your shoulders, and maximise the length between the top of your head and tail-bone.
Maintain this awareness of your posture throughout the day – whether you’re waiting for a bus, or walking to work. You may need to consciously remind yourself to do this to begin with. However, you’ll soon find yourself standing taller, and feeling a lot more connected with your abdominal and core muscles.
Resist the urge to look down or avoid eye contact when you’re interacting with others. Walk tall (with your head held high), and you’ll instantly notice a difference. So try it today, and strut out into the world feeling super confident.
