We all know the importance of self-love. But after years of putting other people’s needs first, it can take time to throw out the idea that your self-esteem depends on how other people view you. Angel intuitive Tara D LaDue explains what she does to take care of herself with a little love and guidance from heaven.
When the idea of self-care was first introduced to me it was such a foreign concept; it seemed selfish. I meditated on it and called my angels in for advice, not appreciating of course that the act of meditation in itself is self-care. When you get quiet in your heart and mind, you can really hear the messages your angels are communicating. My guides told me I couldn’t be of service to others unconditionally unless I took care of my needs first. Wow, this is so true. When I was mindlessly people pleasing without question, I was exhausted. I have found developing your own self-care practice is one of the best things you can do for your loved ones. Communing with your angels through meditation is a great place to start.
My Kundalini yoga teacher, who I consider an earth angel, once said something that has really resonated with me during my self-love journey: ‘Be nice enough to be nice to yourself.’
Often, we are so concerned with how we make others feel, we often forget to check in with ourselves regarding our own needs – especially during the festive season. It’s also important to watch what you say to yourself and to stop that internal negative voice from being unkind to you.
Writing in my journal is another wonderful act of self-care. Every day, I jot down down five things I am grateful for. My angels always make it onto my gratitude list – I say thanks for the powerful messages they give me through numbers, songs on the radio or animals I see in nature. This keeps me positive, which allows me to be helpful and loving to others. What I project out to the world, I attract, and happiness is contagious!
Recently, I have become enamoured with adult colouring books. I asked my angels to show me a way to calm myself when the world around me is so chaotic. The following week, I was given some adult colouring pages and pencils from a friend. Now I sit down to colour for about 30 minutes a day. It is quiet time for me, which keeps my mind focused and clear of negativity. What’s more, the end results of my masterpieces are so rewarding! If you’re not keen on colouring in, set some time aside to ask the angels to put something else in your path that will have a calming affect on your life – who knows what they might provide.
I often consult my Archangel Raphael Healing Oracle Cards by Doreen Virtue when I need some self-care guidance for the day. My card this morning made me giggle as it said ‘Stretch.’ Archangel Raphael says that we could all do with taking more time to stretch our bodies. Stretching through yoga is my way of honouring my body and relieving stress – how will you be good to yours?
