Getting a pet is super exciting, and they can bring a whole host of new changes within your home and lifestyle. The responsibility of welcoming a pet into your home e.g. regular exercise, routine for meals, spending time with them and of course maintaining their growth and health are some obvious changes but, what can a pet provide for us? Simonne Lee walks us through the top four reasons to welcome an animal into your home…
Having a pet makes you responsible for more than just yourself, and they can often help us to avoid feeling alone. When times are challenging, your pet can also help to distract and take the focus off the problem at hand, simply by interacting with them.
If you have a pet that needs an active lifestyle, this will certainly make you get off the sofa. They even create social banter when out and about, as other owners are usually friendly and welcome casual conversation – you may even get a friendly sniff from a dog or two as well!
3 Stress buster
Do you know how calming it is to our nervous system just to touch your pet? Just by looking at your furry friend, you release a hormone called oxytocin which creates an instant happy state. They also lower the levels of the stress hormone cortisol in the body.
4 You’ve got a friend in me!
There are many health benefits to having a pet in your life however, the greatest joy is simply interacting with them and enjoying their company. Love comes in many shapes, forms and sizes, and so does having a best friend.
