By setting aside some time each day to reflect on our behaviours, we all have the opportunity to grow and develop. Here’s how you can start being a better person today…
1. Accept that we all need to change
To become a better person, you have to be willing to change, as it is the only true way to develop. Many people are against change, which can make it very difficult for them to learn from mistakes and grow. Keep an open mind and always focus on who you’d like to become.
2. Surprise someone you love
Hectic lifestyles mean we can sometimes overlook those closest to us. One of the most rewarding feelings in the world is knowing that you have made someone smile. Surprise that special person in your life by doing something out of the ordinary for them!
3. Don’t lie
Remember your mother telling you when you were child that honesty is the best policy? It’s true! So make yourself a promise to never tell lies again and develop better habits. If this proves too tricky, start by taking small steps first. Try telling no lies for one whole day, then extend this to two or three upon successful completion.
4. Be forgiving
Forgiving someone who hurt you is very difficult to do, but to be a better person you should learn to let go of any past hurt and accept that we are all prone to making mistakes. Instead of holding grudges, try to forgive, forget and move forward.
5. Be calm
Many people let anger and rage alter their decision-making skills. Learn to keep a cool head, as anger can damage relationships with others. Find a way to change your negative emotions – staying angry doesn’t solve any problems and can actually create more of them. Find some way of relaxing your nerves when you’re angry by meditating, counting to 10 or using a stress ball.
