Take the time to discover the stone best suited to you and your needs with Kristin Petrovich
So many crystals, so little time…
“I’ll never forget the first time I walked into Astro Gallery of Gems, a 10,000sq ft gem and mineral showroom in New York City,” explains Kristin Petrovich, author of Elemental Energy. “The showroom was filled with so many crystals, gems, geodes and unusual pieces of jewellery, I felt overwhelmed. Try as I did to process all of the colours, shapes and sparkles – my eyes didn’t know where to look first. Until that day, I had no idea just how many crystals and gemstones existed in the world!” We here at Soul & Spirit have decided to come to the rescue, and help you decide what it is you want before you go making your first purchases. We know all too well how overwhelming and alluring the call of the crystal shop can be…
Before you buy, ask yourself the following questions…
• What gemstones are you most attracted to?
Not just physically, but which crystals do you feel most drawn to? Their pull towards you could be trying to tell you and your intuition something.
• What are your favourite colours?
Colours play a huge part in whether or not we’re attracted to something. It may not just be the colour you prefer, but perhaps a certain shade resonates with your aura or even one of your chakras.
• Would you rather have a tumblestone or a raw, uncut crystal?
While both are great to look at, the way a mineral has been finished will have an effect on powers. It’s believed that tumblestones have a soft, harmonising effect, while their uncut counterparts are more powerful and invigorating.
• What will you be using it for?
You’ll need to find the crystal most suited to your desired purpose. For example, if you want one for massages, you’d want something polished. If you’re looking to meditate, opt for a raw stone, so you can benefit from its amplified energies.
Be sure to grasp your stones and get a real feel for them when browsing. If it doesn’t feel right, keep searching until you find the one
Now you know what you’re looking for, here are a few of our suggestions to help you build and expand on your collection…
I’m looking for… balance, focus and clarity
WE SUGGEST… Clear Quartz (raw)
This versatile ‘white light’ is the single most important stone to have on hand. Its colourlessness means you can substitute it for any stone in any treatment or practice. You can also use this high-vibrational stone to amplify the energy of other stones in baths, elixirs or face and body treatments. Due to its ability to amplify, Clear Quartz should be used in a positive mode, or to make other crystals work in harmony.
I’m looking for… a confidence boost and personal growth
WE SUGGEST… Green Moss Agate (tumblestone)
This stone is said to bring abundance, success and prosperity to those who recognise its powers. Known as the ‘Agate of warriors’, Moss Agate is considered the most powerful of Agates.
I’m looking to… balance and heal
WE SUGGEST… Rose Quartz (raw)
Don’t let its gentle pastel hue fool you − this stone is a powerhouse, subtly soothing body and mind, and opening the heart to new experiences. It is believed to help ground, soothe and nurture you, as well as assisting you in manifesting unconditional love and forgiveness.
