Pay homage to the striking beauty of the night sky with this constellation filled table runner which can be hung up as a tapestry!
You will need:
• Dark blue cotton fabric, 1m
• White embroidery thread & sewing needle
1 Cut two 40cm wide rectangles to your desired length, adding 2cm for seams. Fold in half lengthways and draw a curve to round off the ends.
2 Mark the design of your constellation landscape on one fabric panel. Make dots for individual stars.
3 Using three strands of embroidery thread, stitch the designs with a neat running stitch. For the small stars, do little cross stitches and big for the larger.
4 Place the two right sides of the rectangular pieces together and pin. Sandwich the fringing between the ends of the fabric with the fringing inside.
5 Sew a 1cm seam around, leaving an 8cm gap. Clip the curves and turn out the runner. Press out the seams and sew up to complete.
“To get your fabric as taut as
possible when embroidering,
always use a hoop. This causes
friction and really holds the fabric
in place with no slipping.”
