Monica Troughton shows you how to love getting older
Congratulations! You’ve found another wrinkle. You’ve worked hard for that, so don’t even think about smoothing it out with pots of the latest lotions, pills or even worse, cosmetic surgery. Growing old feels so deeply satisfying and comfortable, yet many of us fear it and look at this highly natural process the same way as we would an unwelcome intruder. We begin to dread birthdays and see them as milestones towards some kind of Armageddon. Well, here’s some good news. Growing old is a gift, bringing with it deep inner knowing and the ability to nurture abilities such as telepathy and clairvoyance. It is as if though a great light is turned on, and suddenly you can read people’s minds and have a greater understanding. The extraordinary power of growing old is nothing to fear. Age brings with it wisdom, an inner knowing, psychic powers and the ability to communicate with deep and powerful forces. Of course, you have to trust this deep inner process and get used to it. Make time to listen to it. It is as if though all the years you have lived, laughed and struggled, life finally rewards you with these attributes.
Patience and trust
You must trust that you have been given these gifts and make time for them to unfold. Trust is the faith to believe you have the wisdom you lacked before. This comes with age, especially when you are premenopausal − and it just keeps on getting stronger.
This is a great opportunity to connect with these hidden forces. Sit in a quiet room and practice feeling everything that’s going on in your body. Stay rooted in your body. Listen to everything around you. Peace and harmony comes in these moments.
Your advice will be sought by many who will recognise this extraordinary change in you. Try not to lecture people − just gently point them in the right direction.
Follow your dreaming pattern
Are you dreaming more? What messages are being revealed to you in the mysterious sleeping hours? See if you can catch your dreams and make more of them. Is there a pattern to your dream? Are you receiving answers to a problem you put to yourself just before you fall asleep?
These magnificent guides are able to whisper to you more now that you have age and wisdom on your side. If you have a pressing challenge, don’t be afraid to ask these spirits for guidance − they long to help!
Learn what is important
If you make a mistake − admit it. Old age no longer needs support from an ego. So what if you got it wrong? Apologise and move on, so you can simply carry on learning and growing. Scaffold the new you by mindfully breathing and giving mindful responses. Be aware of everything, and notice all to expand your inner vision.
Create an altar
A good idea is to keep rituals, and make a place that is yours, such as a little altar that you can create to bring nature into your life and learn from it. The mighty oak tree doesn’t collapse beneath their weight of storms, so bring a few leaves or an acorn to your altar. You can be the same as the mighty oak − stay firm in your beliefs and don’t let emotional storms batter you. Bring things from nature into your life and let them remind you that life is cyclical.
Shake off the gloom about growing older
It’s a win-win for everyone, so enjoy it! With old age, the more you do, the more you are rewarded. Time is not running out – it’s simply changing. Play with time and don’t bother with the past or the future, but stay happy and gracefully in the present.
