Positive empowerment coach, Kim Wymer shares 7 simple steps for beating the blues to help you to be more positive.
1 Be grateful
Write down the things you’re grateful for, this will help centre you in the morning and put you in an appreciative mood for the day.
2 Affirm your desires
Express what emotions you want to overcome, but say them in present tense as if you’ve gotten over them already. Make a habit of telling yourself phrases like: ‘Every day I am stronger, happier and more confident than ever.’
3 Visualise yourself
Imagine in your mind’s eye yourself being the happy, strong and confident person you want to be –somebody no longer ruled by your emotions – see it in bright vivid colour. Get a positive movie going on in your mind and visualise yourself achieving what you want.
4 Feel the rhythm
Listen to uplifting music and dance around the living room. Music can trigger your mind back to certain times and events in your life, so pick a play-list that’ll bring you happy reminders of good times.
5 Turn off and tune in
Sometimes we need a break from technology. Ditch it all and try seeking out some peace and quiet time. Notice your mind quieten when you’re away from all the gismos and gadgets.
6 Give it time
Everyone’s healing time is different – it takes as long as it takes. Try to shift your focus on all the good in your life and treat yourself well, knowing that in time you will feel better.
7 Let it out
Try writing a letter of all your emotions on the matter in hand, express every detail, then read it out loud. If it’s upsetting, really do cry the tears and, when you’ve done it, burn the letter and let it go – you’ll feel so much better.
