We could all do with a little more laughter in our lives – it’s a beautiful thing! And, to help you to enjoy more hearty giggles, certified laughter yoga instructor, Lesley Lyle shares her 5 lessons in laughter…
1 Make sure you are willing to laugh.
Some people unconsciously suppress their natural laughter because they perceive it as an unsophisticated thing to do. Decide that you will laugh whenever you can and take advantage of every opportunity, then notice how great you feel
2 Choose to be in the company of people who laugh.
Not only will you find yourself naturally joining in, but you’ll find yourself feeling happier. Happy people laugh more and people who laugh become happier – it’s win/win!
3 Make eye contact with people as you giggle.
This is what will trigger the mirror neurones that are responsible for the infectiousness of laughter
4 Try to laugh a little longer and louder than usual.
It is helpful if you also open your mouth slightly wider than you would normally and tip your chin up. This is the optimum body posture for hearty chuckling. The positive feelings will be more intense and you are more likely to trigger a response in others
You can just laugh and stop on command. Pretend you are a famous actor/actress and you’ve been asked to play the part of someone who is giggling at something really funny. Notice how quickly it can turn from pretend to real. The absurdity of it may make you laugh alone.
