Like all of the planets, Mercury can strongly influence our lives. Affecting communication, clear thinking, truth, and travel, it plays a pivotal role in our daily routines – especially when, like now, it is in retrograde. Up until May 22nd 2016, Mercury will be slowing down its orbit and bringing its pace more in line with the earth – and potentially creating a little bit of a shake up along the way. Don’t let this put you off living life to the full though – this exciting period also brings with it the perfect opportunity for reflection, growth and change. Here’s how to survive these planetary changes and to use them to your advantage:
Back things up
It’s well-known that Mercury in retrograde can play havoc with technology. With this in mind, be sure to back up your computer, phone and iPad and to save anything you are working on. If you have important documents on your computer, try printing off hard copies.
Preparation is key
Be sure to leave more time than usual when setting off anywhere – expect increased traffic jams, missed connections, train delays and road closures. Make sure you’ve planned alternative routes should you encounter any delays and take a good book with you – any setback in your schedule will be a nice opportunity to read, rather than a frustration.
Communication is affected at this time – things can lack clarity, conversations can be misunderstood and upsets can easily arise. Be aware of this and think about what you’re saying. If your loved ones are being irritable or flying off the handle, try not to judge or react – they are experiencing the effects of Mercury’s disruption, too.
Tie up loose ends
With things being shaken up a little over the next few weeks, Mercury in retrograde provides the perfect opportunity for finishing any outstanding projects in your life. Whether it’s an incomplete craft project, a story you’ve flung in your bottom drawer or the potential for a new romance that you haven’t got round to exploring, now is the time.
Expect the unexpected
Rather than being daunted by the cosmic changes, try to to embrace the unknown and to truly open yourself up to different possibilies. It’s not uncommon for people from your past to get in contact during these weeks – use it as an opportunity to learn more about yourself: sometimes we need to look backwards in order to move forwards.
