You’re at a party, but you don’t feel comfortable – in fact, you feel overwhelmed and ungrounded. Everyone around you seems to be having a good time but you and you have no clue why. You enter a shopping mall and there are an abundance of people walking about. Your skin prickles and your energy feels depleted. All you want to do is get your shopping done and get the hell out of there. You are in a horrible mood. You are angry and depression and this feeling of anxiety, but you have no clue why you feel this way.
The above three statements are typical of being an empath. You may be one and not know it. Gary Leigh, author of the free Empath Guidebook, shares 17 signs to look out for…
But first, what is an Empath, you might ask?
It’s someone who can pick up on the feelings from the people around them and the energies that are about in general. They are also referred to as a highly sensitive person or an HSP.
The stuff of science fiction? No, not in the slightest. In fact, many Empaths will tell you, in no uncertain terms, that being one is real and it’s more a curse than a blessing. There are many signs to being an Empath and while you may not fit all of them, if you are one, you will certainly read the below and say ‘Wow, that’s me!’. We will look at a few of the traits. They are by no means inclusive and this list barely touches the surface.

You are unable to say no when people ask you to do something for them. Even if they treat you like a doormat and never show their appreciation, you are always giving in.
You got out of your way to make people happy. If you can buy them a surprise gift or something that you know they desire, like a cupcake for instance, you will do it. Their happiness, even momentarily makes you happy.
