Everybody’s home should be their safe haven, a place you look forward to returning to at the end of a hectic day. However, if you’ve not yet perfected your spiritual sanctuary, Michele Knight shares her top tips on how you can enhance the energy in your home and achieve domestic bliss…
Ring in the changes…
with a bell or singing bow, letting it ring out in every room. This breaks up the energy in preparation for cleansing the space. It’s particularly effectrve after an argument but I suggest you wait until the person has left the room as it may annoy them further!
Do a little smudging
White sage is used by many to purify the space before sacred ceremonies. It is available online or from New Age shops. Burn in a fireproof container and waft the smoke around each room. If you prefer you can use Frankincense burnt on some charcoal, this is equally effective and very good at shifting unwanted spirits.
Protect your home
If you particularly want to protect a space because you feel unsafe or uncomfortable or you feel someone is focusing on you in a negative way, put garlic bulbs over all the windows and doors. This ancient custom keeps out all bad vibes, as well as vampires!
Place rose quartz around your bed…
To encourage unconditional love vibes while you sleep. Pour salt under the 4 corners of your bed if you suffer from nightmares.
Have a bath…
with rock salt an some sage, as this will clear your personal energy. Visualise all negativity draining down the plughole when you are finished.
Create a shrine…
where you can focus on your positive wishes. Write a letter to your home asking for what you need it to be, and requesting the kind of atmosphere and protection you want. Add crystals, mineral water, incense and a candle. Decorate it with things in nature you find when out walking, photos of lived ones or things that inspire you. Create the ‘heart’ of your home.
Choose colours carefully
Every colour has its own energy. For example, orange makes you hungry so it’s no good for a kitchen, pink soothes and calms, red heats you up and is exciting, green calms you down, and lavender protects you.
Pick only positive images
Ditch anything with a negative or sad connotation. Make sure all the photos are happy and inspirational.
Keep negative influences at bay
Don’t invite people into your home who drain you or make you feel bad. If you can’t avoid negative people because you are related to them, arrange to meet them outside your home.
Any space can look fantastic with a bit of imagination no matter what your budget. Look through magazine and design books for inspiration. Go to bootsales, visit junk shops and look online. Remember, though, it’s better to buy one gorgeous item than a load of junk. Clear out your own clutter and make every room a sanctuary.
